When choosing the best structure for your salt or sand storage facility, you want two main things; longevity and durability. The structure you choose for your facility should provide you with peace of mind and assurance that your investment will decrease your overall operating expense over time.

Tallest Vertical Clearances

The Magnum Series boasts an impressive 20-foot tall vertical clearance at the bunker wall and a 30-foot wide by 37-foot tall dumping lane inside the building.

This exceptional clearance maximizes cubic storage, operational efficiency and minimizes potential damages.

Often, the tallest vertical clearances of a building are determined by the height in the center. What designers frequently mistake to calculate is the actual width of the vertical clearance lane that is required to safely inbound salt deliveries with speed.

In the average 8’ wide lane, buildings are typically just tall enough for a semi-truck to dump a load, which creates a large potential for error, due to the accuracy required by the driver when backing into the facility. When you consider that the accuracy required must continue with perfection, load after load, we are left exposed to the threat of potentially expensive repairs to replace trusses and/or cladding, along with loss of earnings due to reduction of operating availability.

As with delivery truck drivers, loader operators are susceptible to causing damages to storage buildings when lifting the loader bucket above the top wall. If the operator is not excessively careful, the operator is likely to impact a truss leg with the loader. One single error by the operator can leave facility owners faced with an expensive repair to replace trusses and/or membrane cladding.

Corrosion Resistance

Salt piles will not and can not encase steel truss components in the Magnum Series

Steel trusses in salt buildings will deteriorate when three conditions coexist; salt, humid air (moisture content/condensation), and exposure to raw steel.

Traditional salt storage buildings and domes prevent proper air exchange and more importantly, prevent moisture and humidity exhaust that builds up in fully enclosed conditions, creating condensation.

Along with the fact that any structure that has been mounted to the top of the wall that confines the salt, will inevitably rust due to the salt being pushed up on top of the wall and encasing the truss bases.

Considering this, Britespan’s engineers were tasked to find a way to eliminate the chances of rust and corrosion of trusses over time and increase the natural circulation of fresh air.

Salt piles will not and can not encase steel truss components in the Magnum Series, as the trusses are completely independent of the salt containment wall.

The large space between the building and the bunker wall allows for air circulation and venting, preventing condensation and eliminate the chances of corrosion and rust.

As with all our building series, the trusses that we manufacture for our building are hot dip galvanized after all welding is completed. Undeniably reducing the potential risk of corrosion and rust far beyond the performance of inline galvanized steel truss parts.
