Salary Range: $28.00 To $31.00 Hourly

Reporting Managers: Install Crew Leader or Designate

Location: YOU MUST BE LOCATED WITHIN COMMUTING DISTANCE FROM ST. THOMAS, ONTARIO FOR THIS ROLE.  The team travels to work destinations across Ontario from St. Thomas as a central location.  As such, any candidate applying must live in St. Thomas or the surrounding area to be able to be part of this team.

This position requires a lot of travel and time away from home.  Please consider this and if it fits with your lifestyle before applying. Travel expenses such as hotels and meals are covered when traveling for work.  Additionally, you must be willing to work outside in heat during the summer, cold during the winter and be comfortable working at heights.  Training will be given to successful candidate, if they do not have working at heights and fall arrest certifications.

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Install Crew Leader or designate, the Install Crew Supervisor will perform all tasks related to the construction, installation and quality process.

Install Crew Supervisor are required to always support the Install Crew Leader and team to maintain Safety and Quality Assurance Standards while working productively. The position will assist in process and procedure improvement activities. Full-time position with some evenings, weekends, and overtime during peak season. The Install Crew Leader must be able to travel within the province of Ontario.


Position Qualifications:

Education & Knowledge

  • High School diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Ontario Working at Heights certificate – may be obtained through employment
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean, current Drivers Abstract required

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of OHSA and construction regulations
  • Able to conduct a thorough hazard analysis of all tasks
  • Able to implement hazard controls on site as required
  • Able to direct 3-8+ crew members
  • Able to direct sub-contractors
  • Able to instruct crew members on safe work practices
  • Able to read and execute blueprints
  • Able to read parts lists and other construction documents
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making ability
  • Excellent leadership ability
  • Effective troubleshooting skills
  • Self-starter, confident, positive attitude
  • The ability to set priorities and exercise flexibility where necessary
  • Able to use Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, excel, word)
  • Moderate computer skills, able to learn new software as required

Experience

  • 1-5 years experience in construction is preferred
  • 1-3 years experience as a construction supervisor is preferred
  • Proven track record of ethical conduct
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

Communication

  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching and feedback for employees.
  • Identify problems and troubleshoot on site
  • Understand and meet production targets
  • Use email and take clear pictures
  • Responsible for employee performance management, in conjunction with Human Resources, including but not limited to safety, attendance and other performance issues and employee conduct
  • Able to take turn leading daily toolbox talks as required
  • Conduct safety inspections
  • Understanding of proper safety procedures and recognition of hazards
  • Ensuring crews adhere to safety procedures
  • Ensure materials and equipment are in good working order and well taken care of by crew(s)
  • Ensure the build area is always safe for the public and crew members
  • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to and enforcing safety codes
  • Effectively lead a team of installers
  • Supervise sub-trades on-site to ensure the sure safe completion of assigned tasks
  • Delegate tasks to team members on-site and follow up to ensure accurate completion
  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of workers who operate cranes and other similar heavy equipment
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity
  • Train and/or arrange training and cross-training opportunities for crew members
  • Assist with the management and monitoring the performance of sub-contractors and staff
  • Assist with defining the scope and resources required
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Liaise with building inspectors, clients, representatives, the general public and operations management to prevent or resolve any issues
  • Adhere to company and client quality standards
  • Complete daily production reports
  • Ensure all paperwork (reports, time sheets, etc.) is submitted timely
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with all team members
  • Communicate and report job completion and deficiencies
  • Communicate with internal and external teams and site representation in a professional and timely manner
  • Report building issues and production status to Superintendent daily
  • A positive attitude and willingness to encourage co-workers
  • Lead the team with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to high quality
  • Maintain documentation required by OHSA, ESA and Britespan policy
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Retain all receipts from credit card purchases, accurately indicate job costing information and submit as directed weekly unless approved otherwise

Back up to Install Crew Leader:

  • Review and execute the scope of work
  • Help with job planning
  • Daily completion of health and safety reports
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other project supervisors or managers
  • Coordinate with crew members to determine the equipment required for the project and ensure that materials and equipment have been scheduled and ordered for delivery
  • Ensure assigned vehicles are maintained properly and CVOR requirements if applicable are followed
  • Assist with the hiring process for new crew members
  • Monitoring aspects of the project budget
  • Retain all receipts from credit card purchases, accurately indicate job costing information and submit as directed weekly unless approved otherwise
  • Mentor employees as part of succession management, so that if and when opportunities for advancement arise, they are able to succeed
