Location: Corporate Office – Wingham, Ontario

Position Summary:

The Product Development Designer is responsible for assisting in the development and design of all component parts & assemblies for Britespan’s product line. This involves market research, problem solving, building prototypes and producing detailed manufacturing drawings. They will work alongside the product development manager and our staff engineers to create new and improved products for the fabric building market.


Position Qualifications:

Education & Knowledge

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in engineering design, drafting or in a related technical field or equivalent work experience– required
  • Knowledge of drafting practices, tolerances welding symbols and fabrication procedures – preferred

Skills

  • Competency in SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD – asset
  • Understanding of part design, assemblies, and tolerances.
  • Attention to detail in the creation of drawings.
  • Self-starter with excellent time management.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite

Experience

  • 5 years experience in design, manufacturing and technical trades is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with machining and/or welding and fabrication- asset.
  • Manufacturing and practical work experience – asset
  • Experience with FEA Simulation – asset
  • Working in a dynamic work environment with changing deliverables

Communication

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Interact in a team environment as part of larger projects

Responsibilities

  • Design new components and assemblies brining engineering design concepts to completion.
  • Willing to develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of our products, designs, and quality standards.
  • Assist the engineering team with problem resolutions of manufacturing and in field challenges.
  • Design efficient and competitively priced products.
  • Co-ordinate with other engineering and design staff.
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
  • Make revisions to existing models and drawings.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering related documents & calculations.
  • Flexible, motivated, and organized to meet multiple project timelines.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with field & manufacturing personnel with respect.
  • Follows company standards for welding symbols and fabrication procedures.
  • Participate in developing, and actioning team Continuous Improvement initiatives, team and personal continual growth.
  • Cross-training to work in the Technical Department, as a backup when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.
