Senior Mechanical Designer

Salary Range:$70,000.00 To $85,000.00 Annually

The Senior Mechanical Designer is a key member of the Technical team, utilizes AutoCAD and SolidWorks software to produce detailed drawing packages for both standard and custom Bill of Materials (BOMs) for our dealers and engineers. The role involves creating standard or custom packages, problem-solving, and effectively utilizing Britespan’s library of standard templates to meet specific customer requirements. The mechanical designer ensures accuracy and consistency in the production of these packages, while collaborating with other departments to support project execution and customer satisfaction. The mechanical designer must possess the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.

Position Qualifications:

Education & Knowledge

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in engineering technology, drafting or in a related technical field – required
  • Knowledge of design standards, tolerances welding symbols and fabrication procedures – preferred

Skills

  • Proficient in parametric 3D modelling software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience in AutoCAD
  • Understanding of part design, assemblies, and tolerances – asset
  • Flexible, highly motivated, and well organized
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and maintain multiple projects
  • Motivated self-starter, flexible, efficient, and well organized
  • High attention to detail to produce accurate drawings and designs
  • Self-starter with excellent time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead and develop skills in-house.
  • System development (C++, VBA, Excel)- asset
  • FEA – asset
  • Solidworks PDM- asset

Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in design, manufacturing or technical trades is highly valued
  • Familiarity with machining and/or welding, fabrication, and assembly – asset
  • Experience leading and coordinating work with team members.
  • Jigs and fixture design
  • Working within a dynamic work environment with changing tasks and deliverables.
  • Familiarity of truss and structure design- asset
  • Manufacturing or construction work experience – asset
  • Experience with FEA Simulation – asset

Communication

  • Communicate effectively with team members (oral and written)
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively with multi-department teams
  • Able to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization, including dealers and customers with a very high level of respect.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of our products and quality standards
  • Create the required models & drawings with high attention to detail using applicable design standards
  • Design new components and assemblies bringing engineering design concepts to completion
  • Revise existing models and drawings using product document management software
  • Check and verify drawings to conform to design standards, manufacturing specifications, and customer requirements
  • Assist the engineering team with solutions to manufacturing and in field challenges
  • Preparation of the bill of materials, structural drawing sets & calculations
  • Meet deadlines and coordinate with other engineering and design teams
  • Interact with internal departments & external customers with a high level of respect
  • Interact with and train Jr. team members to bolster departmental growth
  • Participate in developing, and actioning team Continuous Improvement initiatives, team and personal continual growth
  • Support and foster organizational culture
  • Other duties as assigned by Leader
