Reporting Manager: Operations Leader – Steel & Distribution

Location: 71 North Street, Wingham, ON | Wingham

Salary Range: $25.99 To $26.99 Hourly

Position Summary:

The Finishing Technician is a key role, participating in all aspect of the cleaning process, providing knowledge and support to the Distribution Leader and the cleaning team. Under the direction of the Distribution Leader, the Finishing Technician will aid in leading and training all employees, ensure quality and workmanship, and perform all tasks related to the cleaning process.

Position Qualifications:

Education & Knowledge:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A valid Driver’s License
  • A Forklift / Telehandler Certificate
  • CWB Certification – asset (May be obtained during probation period)

Skills:

  • Supervisory and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, shipping and receiving processes
  • Ability to follow and give instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with little direction
  • Able to effectively troubleshoot
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Able to read a measuring tape, blueprints and parts lists
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Basic Microsoft Office and computer skills

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing
  • A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience
  • A minimum of 3 years shipping and receiving experience
  • Experience in quality process and control – asset

Communication:

  • Strong English Communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong Interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and training of the cleaners
  • Lead the material and workflow through the cleaning area
  • Ensure the proper processes are followed in the cleaning of HDG parts
  • Prioritize and coordinate HDG cleaning
  • Consistently demonstrate and incorporate principals of safety for self and others into daily activities
  • Ensure all stations are producing product to the company’s quality standards
  • Assist with company goals through optimization of productivity and material solutions
  • Aid in assessing conflicts and recommend solutions
  • Assist in process and procedure improvement activities
  • Assist in accomplishing manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations including planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching and counseling employees; and initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures
  • Clean, Package, Bundle, Label and Certifying finished product
  • Communicate Quality Alerts and implement Corrective Actions as required
  • Supply the workstations with material quickly and efficiently
  • Consistently maintain an acceptable level of productivity
  • Maintain logs and reports as required
  • Maintain knowledge of lean principals, raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Monitor and enforce safety policies
  • Ensure equipment and tools are in good working order and available for use when required
  • Ensure all daily set up, change over, quality and tool / equipment inspections are completed
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times by educating and directing personnel
  • Develops and maintains a clean, safe working environment for self and co-workers
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with fast changing priorities
  • Performs minor weld repairs when required
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all aspects of work
  • Other duties as assigned
